Faktory ovlivňující míru rodičovského stresu u dítěte s mentálním postižením

Abstract

This article is concerned with problem of parenthood of a child with mental handicap and the problem of anticipation and participation. It traces the attitudes of parents in their difficult life situation and their strategies for coping with this role involving a high degree of stress, and does so by comparing international studies and research projects concerned with the theme. The studies concerned are from Great Britain, India and the United States. The comparison of the role of cultural differences in the concept of the family in Euro-American and Indian culture is particularly interesting. This offers a cross section of parental attitudes to the ques- tion of care for a child with mental handicap from an early age to adolescence and adulthood. The study looks at the way that parents (above all mothers) experience the situation and maps the negative and positive effects of caring for a mentally handicapped child on the carers and family as a whole. It emerges from the work that the level of mental handicap does not necessarily correspond proportionately with the level of parental stress. For the purposes of this work articles were selected from specialist journals from the period 1997–2011.

Tato práce sleduje problematiku rodičovství dítěte s mentálním postižením a problematiku anticipace i participace. Sleduje postoje rodičů v jejich obtížné životní situaci, jejich strategie zvládání této role spojené s vysokou mírou stresu, a to formou porovnání studií a výzkumů ze světa zabývajících se tímto tématem. Jde o studie z Velké Británie, Indie a Spojených států amerických. Zajímavý pohled na tuto problematiku je při porovnání kulturních rozdílů rodiny euroamerické a indické. Jde o průřez rodičovských postojů k péči o dítě s mentálním postižením od raného věku až po péči v období jeho adolescence a dospělosti. Studie ukazují prožívání rodičů (především matek) a zjišťují negativní i pozitivní vlivy péče o dítě s mentálním postižením na pečovatele i rodinu jako celek. Z práce vyplývá, že míra mentálního postižení nemusí úměrně souviset s mírou rodičovského stresu. Pro účely této práce byly vybrány články z odborných časopisů z období let 1997–2011.
