dc.description.abstract The article aims to introduce the concept of Grounded Theory, which originated in social research – sociology – to students and researchers in the field of special education. In the first section we present the social milieu in which the concept was developed. The second part presents the concept of Grounded Theory itself, and takes the form of a discussion of whether or not it is a method. In addition we show how Grounded Theory approaches empirical data and what it consid- ers to constitute data. In this connection we also mention the role of the software employed not merely as a technical tool but as one of the actors in the creation of the theory. In conclusion we take a model example to show how certain problems adequately by quantitative methods, such as question- survey, can be tackled with the help of this concept. en
